Using Tittle for Parents

General

What is Tittle for Parents?

Tittle for Parents is a simple and user-friendly parental control app that aims to help parents keep a healthy watch over their children’s mobile device usage as well as monitor their location on the go.

How does Tittle for Parents work?

Once the child device is paired to the parent device, parents can disable access to mobile applications and browsers through the App Access function, as well as create one-time or recurring schedules to limit device usage at stipulated timings.

The App Usage & Data Usage functions allow parents to monitor the duration and data consumption of the applications the child is using. Similarly, Web Tracking allows parents to view the website browsing history of the child, as well as block websites that contains inappropriate content, e.g. gambling, violence, X-rated, etc.

The child’s location can also be tracked through the Location feature, and parents can receive notifications when the child steps in/out of specified boundaries, e.g. Shopping Mall or Movie Theaters.

On iOS devices, a separate mobile device management (MDM) has to be installed in the child device. When apps are blocked, all third party apps, Internet browsers and certain software apps will disappear from the home screen.

How is Tittle for Parents different compared to other parental control apps?

Tittle for Parents aims to foster better communication and improve relationship between parents and children through introducing time limits to the child’s time spent on their mobile devices.

Instead of taking away their phones, Tittle allows parents to manage the phone usage of their child at their terms and discretion.

Our user-friendly app offers parents a peace of mind, and ensures that all parents, tech-savvy or otherwise, will find maneuvering around the app a breeze. Allowing parents to manage their child’s device remotely after installation and setup means that parents do not need to have physical access to the child device to enable/disable any apps.

We are constantly working to improve the app and resolve technical issues, if any, in order to optimise app performance and user experience. Our dedicated team is also here to provide the support parents need.

What are Tittlers?

Tittlers are the term we use for child devices.

Is my information secure?

Information collected on child’s device is solely for the parents’ tracking and will not be used, disclosed or processed to other third parties for other purposes.

What are the phones that are compatible with Tittle for Parents?

Tittle for Parents works on both iOS and Android devices.

iOS devices should be running on iOS 8.0 or newer.
Android devices should be running on version 4.0 or newer.

Tittle may not function properly if your device(s) is running on older software.

Why isn’t my child device(s) working normally?

Note that there are currently issues with running Tittle on some Android devices. Installation and pairing will work, but there are certain built-in programs or commands that seem to prevent Tittle from running properly.

Some of these devices include Oppo, Huawei, Xiaomi and Asus. The latter has a built-in app called Start Up Manager, which blocks apps like Tittle from starting up and working smoothly. We are working on a solution to address these limitations; please watch this space for updates.

How different is managing an iOS device from an Android device?

Although similar in logic, there are some key differences between managing an iOS device and an Android device.

The main difference between these two platforms is the blocking of apps. Parents can disable access to specific individual apps on Android devices whilst on iOS devices, parents can only enable or disable access to all third party apps (apps downloaded from App Store, such as games, social media, etc) at one go.

On iOS devices, a separate mobile device management (MDM) will be installed on the child device. When apps are disabled, all apps and Internet browsers disappear from the home screen. iOS restrictions will cause re-launched apps to be rearranged in alphabetical order. This usually happens when you enable usage after restricting access (either by schedule or apps access).

On Android devices, child’s location can be tracked through the Location feature. This feature is however, a little different on iOS devices. Upon pairing, parents will need to request for the child’s location and select “allow” when Tittle’s request to allow location access pops up in the child device. This will allow parents to track the location subsequently.

You may refer to the Android vs. iOS chart for more information.

Getting Started

Do I need to install Tittle for Parents on my phone?

Yes, Tittle for Parents has to be installed on both your phone and your child’s phone. During setup, you will be asked to identify the parent device and child device. The parent device will be able to manage the child’s device remotely through functions like App Access, Schedule, Location, etc.

Do I need to jailbreak my mobile phone (or the kids’ mobile phones)?

No, there is no need to jailbreak any parent/child device. Tittle can be downloaded straight into your devices from the App Store or Play Store.

How do I pair my child devices to my device?

After downloading Tittle for Parents in both the parent and child device, sign up for an account in the parent device.

Log in to the account to add a new child device. A pairing code will be generated and has to be keyed in on the child’s app screen. You may also choose to pair by scanning the QR code displayed on screen.

You may refer to the User Guide for the step-by-step download and setup guide.

I cannot scan the QR code using my child’s phone. How do we proceed?

Sometimes, scanning can be a problem in low light environments, or in cases where the scanning device’s camera is a little old. The alternative is to key in the pairing code provided in the next tab.

The pairing code can be found in the same screen of the parent app.

What is Mobile Device Management? (applicable to iOS devices only)

Mobile device management (MDM) is a management profile that allows administrators (in this case, the parent devices) to access and oversee mobile device activities securely.

Due to the nature of the Apple operating system, this management profile has to be installed on the child device before the parent can gain remote access to manage the said device.

During installation, Tittle wants me to install “MDM” in my child’s device. Is it safe? (applicable to iOS devices only)

Yes, it is absolutely safe, and the installation is required to enable your parent device to remotely manage the child’s device.

After successfully scanning the QR code, Tittle will redirect you to your child device’s web browser and prompt you to install MDM. Follow the steps to install the profile in your child’s device. Once profile is successfully installed, you will see the “pairing successful” message.

If you have any problems installing the profile, please go to Settings to check if you have another profile already installed. You may also contact us to see if we can help find out why the profile is not installing.

During installation, Tittle wants me to disable Battery Optimisation, and enable Usage Access/Accessibility services in my child’s device. Why? Is it safe? (Android)

Yes, it is absolutely safe. These are required to enable your parent device to remotely manage the child’s device, and capture usage/location data as accurately as possible, and to prevent the child’s device manager from ‘killing’ the app running in the background.

How many child devices can I manage?

At first download, you will be able to manage up to 2 child devices from 1 parent device.

How many devices can I access my child devices from?

At first download, you will be able to manage your child devices from 1 parent device.

Using Tittle for Parents

Does my child’s device require a mobile data plan?

Yes, your child’s phone or tablet will require a data plan. It is possible to stay connected via a wifi connection; however, this means that when the device is out of the wifi zone, the tracking function will cease to work until the child device is “online” again.

Can my child’s location still be detected from my device if he/she does not have mobile data or wifi access?

No, your child will require mobile data or connection to wifi on his/her device in order for you to monitor mobile activities or track their location.

I used App Access to block some apps on my child’s device, but not blocked on the child device.

Check if your child’s device is connected to the Internet. Ensure that the app you want to block is disabled correctly and for the right child device. Sometimes, there may be a slight delay on Google Cloud, iOS’s MDM or the server. Please wait for a few minutes and check again to verify if the app is now blocked.

I want to block/unblock individual apps for my child’s iPhone/iPad.

Currently, you can only disable or enable access to limited apps on all iOS devices like iPhones & iPads. Default apps such as Phone, Messages, Clock, Calculator, Contacts, Mail, etc are restricted by Apple and cannot be blocked by Tittle.

Other default apps like App Store (with in-app purchases), Camera (with FaceTime), iTunes, Safari and Siri can be disabled.

Instead of blocking/allowing individual apps like in Android, iOS only allows a one-off block to all third-party apps (apps downloaded from App Store, such as games, social media, etc). That means if you want to block Facebook and allow Dictionary, that is not quite possible now. Please bear with us while we work to find a solution for this.

Can I run Tittle for Parents in a different time zone?

Yes, you can adjust the time in which the application is running by following these steps:

1) Go to Schedule screen

2) Add a new schedule

3) In the add schedule screen, update your child device’s time zone and apply the changes accordingly.

The schedule you create will be triggered based on this selected time zone.

Can I pre-determine a schedule for my child?

Yes, you can simply go to Schedule function to determine the start and end time to limit usage on your child devices. You will also be able to select the preferred repeat option.

The schedule has begun but my child’s device is still not blocked.

Check if your child’s device is connected to the Internet. You will need the connection for the schedule and device status to be updated.

Make sure the Android/iOS system date, time and/or time zone is the same on both your device and your child’s device. Also, please ensure the schedule created has the same date, time and time zone as both your device and your child’s device.

Sometimes, there may be a slight delay on Google Cloud, iOS’s MDM or the server. Please wait for a few minutes and check if the device is still not blocked.

The schedule has ended but my child’s device is still blocked. How do I unblock it?

Check if your child’s device is connected to the Internet. You will need the connection for the schedule and device status to be updated.

Make sure the Android/iOS system date, time and/or time zone is the same on both your device and your child’s device. Also, please ensure the schedule created has the same date, time and time zone as both your device and your child’s device.

Sometimes, there may be a slight delay on Google Cloud, iOS’s MDM or the server. Please wait for a few minutes and check if the device is still blocked.

I selected all the apps I want to block in Manage Apps during a schedule. Why is it not working?

Check that the apps you want to block are in disabled mode, not enabled mode. By default, all apps are disabled unless you manually select some apps to be enabled for us during an active schedule, e.g Phone.

Can Tittle for Parents monitor messages sent via SMS or other messaging apps?

Currently, Tittle for Parents does not support this function on both Android and iOS devices. However, you can disable the messaging apps through the App Access function (Android only).

We are constantly working to improve our features and usability. Please continue to check out this space for updates.

Can Tittle for Parents monitor or block phone calls?

As with SMS and messaging apps, Tittle for Parents does not currently support this function on both Android and iOS devices.

We are constantly working to improve our features and usability. Please continue to check out this space for updates.

Can Tittle for Parents monitor my child’s time usage on his/her device?

Yes, parents can monitor the duration of the apps the child is using via the App Usage function. This is however, only applicable for Android child devices now.

Are the notifications in my Notification Centre visible to my child’s devices?

The child device will receive intermittent notifications when Tittle is running in the background. However, this does not affect or interfere with the child device and is currently only applicable to Android devices.
